My research directs toward ocean circulation, dynamics, process studies, air-sea interaction, and decadal variability and change. My main research interests are tropical-ocean (particularly the Indian Ocean) variability at intraseasonal to decadal time scales, and the role of the Indian Ocean in regulating regional and global climate variability under a warming climate. My recent research projects also involve the impacts of climate variability and change on US Northeast coast sea level rise, and on Southwest US water resource.
