The Climate Machine: Results of a Simple Model

By assuming a balance between the solar radiation absorbed by a planet and the energy it emits, an effective temperature can be calculated by:

Te = Fs(1-albedo)/[4*sigma]

Here is how the calculation compares to observations,

Planet Solar Distance Albedo Effective Emission Temperature  oK(model) Surface Temp oK
(measured)
Mercury 0.39 0.30 420 460
Venus 0.72 0.70 300 700
Earth 1.0 0.33 255 290
Mars 1.5 0.20 205 220
Uranus 19 0.80 60 65
