Sulfate Aerosol Microphysics
Utilizing CARMA with CAM will provide a more comprehensive treatment of aerosol growth. Here's a comparison of growth packages in CAM alone and CARMA with CAM.
CAM
CAM takes the mass mixing ratio of sulfate in each grid box, parameterizes it
into a log normal size distribution, and calculates the optical properties.
CARMA with CAM
CARMA keeps track of each species in numerous size-resolved bins.
Particle sizes change due to growth and coagulation. The calculated size
distributions are fed back to CAM and optical properties are calculated.
