The Blue Marble

For those not paying attention, the earth is dying. Well, not the earth itself, but the ecosystems which rely on it. Why should we care? Well, we are a part of the ecosystem. So we are causing our own demise. And for the people out there who are capable of looking beyond themselves: All of the beautiful creatures that we share this world with are dying too. This isn't some distant future - our world is one track for collapse between 40 - 80 years from now. This is likely your lifetime, and most certainly your children's. If you don't believe me, check out the evidence.
A lot of us may not realize the destruction we are causing. After all, most of us don't have the desire to go out and kill a bunch of animals. But by having large families, and living extravagant lives, and voting for politicians that neglect the environment, we are indirectly killing all these creatures.

For religious people: God created this beautiful place with millions of species of creatures living in harmony with one another. He created each one of these for a reason. He did NOT create them for humans to destroy. He is NOT going to perform a miracle and save a threatened species from our destruction. After all, 50-100 species of animals go extinct EACH DAY, and God hasn't saved any of them.
For non-religious people with children/who plan to have children: Regardless of how life came about, it is in our best interest to stop the destruction. How we live today will determine the quality of our lives in the future, and will determine if our children can survive at all. See the evidence and the solutions.
For non-religious people without children: All I can say here is, when you are on your deathbed and you reflect upon how you lived your life, you will feel an amazing inner peace if you cared for this world in such a manner to allow future generations to enjoy life as you had the opportunity to. If you lived a greedy, selfish life, you will feel a deep regret during your last moments of life.

There still is hope. We can change our own actions and the actions of our government and make this world hospitable for ourselves when we're older, and our children.
"We
do not inherit the earth from our ancestors, we borrow it from our children."
